Maxine
Segal (Director) completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Psychology and Drama. She continued her studies and completed,
with distinction, a Postgraduate in Education. Her teaching
career in Drama spans over nine years. Maxine has worked extensively
in Voice Training for Corporate Clientele and compiled training
manuals in Communication and Counseling. She furthered her
studies in Expressive Therapy in Boston, Massachusetts. Her
interest in Experiential Learning led her to the facilitation
of Drumming Circles. She started with The Drum Café
in 1997.
Lance Radus (Director) completed a course in Stress Management after university. He opened a private
practice in 1992, consulting for both individual and corporate
clients. His passion and interest in indigenous musical instruments
led him to open a shop that imported and exported instruments
from around the world. Combining his knowledge on Stress management
and indigenous instruments, he created a Sound Therapy Workshop
that was used in the corporate environment as an additional
tool for stress release. His understanding of the power of
sound, led him to The Drum Café in 1998. Some of the
instruments he plays are the didgeridoo, djembe, mbira, kalimba,
and Tibetan singing bowls.
Faye Magouretsios (Event Manager) An accomplished multi-tasker as part-owner of a business for six years, Faye has more recently become drawn to the events industry completing studies in event management. Faye’s former studies in education reflect day to day in the Drum Café office, where she teaches us how to smile and keep cool while effectively managing the most trying and chaotic events!
Adam Swoboda (Facilitator & Events Manager, Melbourne)
A seasoned kit drummer and manager of an original rock act, Adam has always found a sense of personal 'calibration' from drumming. Adam is immersing himself in this field and continues to combine his Psychology major with his creative passion and personal outlet that is drumming, here with The Drum Cafe.
Fode
Alseny Sylla (Master Drummer) Cora player and teacher
from Guinea has worked with The Drum Cafe in London where
he performed for Prince Charles and is now here in Australia.
His exuberance and energy is inspirational. Malin teaches
his art to many students and shares his love of music through
his talent and beautiful smile.
Grant
Naylor, legendary percussionist from Australia has
traveled through Australia and Europe performing and delighting
audiences around the world with his musical talent. This cutting
edge professional musician is so experienced in many art forms
and his brilliance and passion he exudes in his music is tactile.
Dani Guerrero is the most recent addition to our team of corporate facilitators, engaging teams with his unique energy and vibrancy. A career musician, Dani's skills as a percussionist are endless; we are yet to find a piece of percussion he cannot play... and when we say play, we mean PLAY!
Jack
Glass, from Sydney completed his Arts & Music degree
majoring in Composition. He began his musical career at age
5 and today is a versatile musician accomplished in electronic
music, piano, didgeridoo, guitar, doun douns, bell and mbira.
Jack frequently works in the studio collaborating with various professional
musicians.
Sibo
Bangoura started playing drums at age 9 and today
his mastery of the drum gives exuberance and a powerful performance
that is truly unforgettable. Living in Australia now, Sibo still
travels to Africa and teaches many students internationally.
We are privileged to be playing with this superb master drummer.
Paul Chenard is a brilliant saxophonist and an absolute pleasure to listen to perform. Having an instrument such as saxophone sit with in with a team comprised of solely percussionists is a real task; while weaving melody into the drum circle the rhythm cannot be neglected. Few can pull off this creative/listening balancing act
better than Paul... a true proffessional!
Freddy Poncin started playing drums at the age of 12 and has been a professional musician for over 2 decades. As a freelance percussionist, Freddy plays with various groups, teaches drumming, organises school workshops and facilitates drum circles in Western Australia. Freddy plays djembe, congas, drum kit, timbales and various percussion instruments.
